Maishofen is a municipality with 3305 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the province of Salzburg in Zell am See district in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Pinzgau in Salzburg between Zell am See, Saalfelden and Viehofen at the beginning of Glemmertales direction Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The town itself is located near the Zeller lake amid the Pinzgauer Grass Mountains.

Demographics

History

Maishofen was documented in 1338 first mentioned as " Main Whacking". 1838 the first school house in Maishofen was built. It was at that time exactly on the spot where now stands the Raiffeisen bank.
