Maisons-Laffitte

Maisons -Laffitte is a town of 23.125 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Yvelines in the Ile- de -France region.

Location

The city is located about 18 km north- west of Paris, and ten kilometers northeast of Saint- Germain -en- Laye. It extends along the left bank of the Seine, opposite the city Sartrouville, with which it is connected by a road and a railway bridge. To the west there is a larger forest area, the Forêt Domaniale de Saint -Germain -en- Laye.

History

The first mention of the village dates from the year 820 However, it is uncertain whether the certificate mentioned in the former Villa Mansionis really the present site says.

Name

The name " Maisons " comes from the Latin mansio, which means as much as residence (today is the French word " Maison " with " house" translated). Until 1882 it was known as Maisons- sur -Seine, a designation that indicates their location on the Seine. The name part " Laffitte " goes back to the banker Jacques Laffitte, who divided the belonging to the castle park in smaller plots and the new owners turned the building material by the demolition of the outbuildings of the existing castle of François Mansart available.

Presence

Today Maisons-Laffitte part with its racecourse and its very nice park to one of the most popular and most expensive suburbs of Paris. However one can not imagine a Pillnitz Castle Park or other botanical garden at the park. Rather, it is a set of großläufig scale, villa-style property, but which are a welcome change from the big city life - even more so than the long-range, geometrically designed avenues are still under the conditions Laffitte and in their well-kept fresh for a walk, jogging or invite to the summer picnic.
