Maitama Sule

Dan Masanin Kano Al- Haji Yusuf Maitama Sule (* in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria ) is a Nigerian historian, politician and diplomat. He was the former Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations and former Nigerian Minister of National Guidance.

The " Dan Masanin of Kano " is a leading figure in the Emirate of Kano. He believes in a continent -spanning connection between the Hausas and the people of Ethiopia. He cites as evidence of linguistic similarities and a common worship of the sun before the arrival of Islam and Christianity.

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word between Us and You (English A Common Word Between Us and You), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (English " Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... " ) submitted (13 October 2007).
