Location and construction

The Radohima rises between the Shala Valley and the valley of Cem i Nikçit. It forms the southeastern completion of Bjeshkët e Namuna, a gruff - karstic, deserted and practically waterless mountain range, whose highest point is. The Radohima is a solid block with numerous secondary peaks. The main peak Maja e Radohimës points around the peak on a flat ridge, so that the impression of a large dome occurs. The flanks are steep, however: On the east side the Radohima falls very steeply over 1500 meters into the Shala Valley from. On the west side, the height difference is less far.

The mountain is composed entirely of dolomite. In karstic area there are two large sinkholes respectively poljes: in the west of the Radohima around two large one kilometer Livadhet e Boges to around 1800 meters, on the south flank the smaller Gropa e Radohimës to not quite 2000 meters altitude, between the after southwest and south running ridges lies. Between this sinkhole and the Shala Valley -in approximately 2313 meters high secondary summit rises.

The Radohima is also home to numerous caves. Bulgarian cavers have more than 500 meters deep cave exploring, whose entrance they found at 2225 meters altitude. At the foot of the mountain in the Shala Valley powerful spring karst springs.

Early ascents

The Hungarian baron Franz inquired Nopcsa 1907, the northern Albanian Alps, in order to capture geologically. He climbed with two Albanian companions also Radohima, which he had held for the highest point of the mountain.

" [ ... ] And on 26 August was gone from the to climb only on my card Maja e Radohimës called Maja e Kozhnjes the culmination of the Western Prokletijen. The tour succeeded without incident, but it was quite difficult from Okol from. The last part of the ascent on the south side of the mountain colossus could only be taken with danger to life, because we confronted an almost vertical, furrowed only by a few deep water groove wall here. Quite excellent proven themselves in this situation Lek Curri, whose skill was admirable. [ ... ] On very smooth places he climbed ahead and moved our belongings in succession, and Sadri Luka me up. I was three of us not the only one who was glad when we were finally escaped late in the afternoon of smooth, harrowing cliff happy and tired and hungry reached the lonely towering into the sky, elongated, narrow back. The aneroid gave to my no small disappointment mere 2,430 meters. In 1906 I had the height to 2800 m. appreciated and they considered the culmination of northern Albania. "

On the following day he ascended the mountain once more via the northeast ridge to continue his geological research.

Next climbers were probably Italian surveyors on the top of a large stone man built in the late 1920s. Followed them as the first " tourist " Climbers the Austrian Georg Heinsheimer, Heid, Egon Hofmann and Henry treasure from Innsbruck and Linz in the summer of 1930. The following year, another Austrian mountaineer group passed the summit. 1933 climbed the Austrians Lothar Fink and Rudl Tinsobin from the Kar Livadhi i Boges the north wall in direct possible fall line.

" [ ...] We went [ ... ] in the next, right on the crest start Radohines lying saddle and did an expectant look upward. But it was only gravel; a wretched gravel back. Only a very modest, short Gratstückchen, barely medium weight, the increase seasoned a bit. In half an hour we stood on the summit, which bore the Steinman of the Italian survey. "
