Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–92)

The Major Soccer League ( MSL) (until 1990 Major Indoor Soccer League, MISL ) was an American indoor soccer league that existed from 1978 to 1992. From 1984 to 1992 she was the highest American League in professional football.

History

The MISL was founded in 1978 when the football won in the United States by the success of the North American Soccer League in popularity. When they broke up in 1984 after a severe financial crisis, the MISL took several teams of her and, finally, the peak position of the football leagues in the United States. Before the season 1990/91 the league changed its name to Major League Soccer. Due to the great competition to the hall League National Professional Soccer League ( NPSL ), the teams and the league until 1992 came increasingly into financial difficulties, so that the league disbanded in the summer of 1992.

Mode

The number of participants varied between six and fourteen teams. From 1979 to 1988, the teams were divided into Western and Eastern Division, in addition to the 1980/81 season in the Central Division. In the group stage the teams of a division each played several times against each other. The top four teams in each division played in KO mode of the two finalists, who were allowed to play for the championship. Most successful team was the San Diego Sockers, who could win the championship after their entry into the league eight times in 1982.
