The Makhaleng [ mɑχɑlɜŋ ] (from Sesotho lekhala, pass ', ie " flow at the passports "; Kornetspruit in South Africa, German as " Hornbach " ) is a river in Lesotho. He is a right tributary of the Senqu, which is called in South Africa Orange or Orange River.

Geography

The Makhaleng arises in the east of Maseru district northeast of the 2886 meter high Machache of several small headwaters. From there it flows into numerous, deeply cut into the basalt mountains meanders southward and southwestward through the districts of Maseru and Mafeteng. He runs behind the first mountain range of the Maloti Mountains. He is on a section of the border between the two districts. The Makhaleng enters the sandstone area of the Lowlands and reaches the Mohale's Hoek district. The river finally runs about 30 kilometers along the border with South Africa and then opens at the lowest point of Lesotho, some 20 kilometers south of Mohale's Hoek, in the Senqu. The Makhaleng is how all the rivers of Lesotho, is not navigable.

In the upper reaches are the Qiloane Falls, one about 30 feet deep, broad and multi-level waterfall. You are a destination for tourists. At the southernmost section of the river border crossing Makhaleng Bridge is located to the South African province of the Free State.
