Maksim Purkayev

Maxim Alexeyevich Purkajew (Russian Максим Алексеевич Пуркаев, scientific transliteration Maksim Aleksejevič Purkajev, .. * 14 Augustjul / August 26 1894greg in Nalitowo ( Volyn province ); † January 1, 1953 in Moscow ) was a Soviet general.

Life

Purkajew served from 1915 as an ensign in the Imperial Russian Army during the First World War ( 1914-1918). After the October Revolution, he joined the Red Army in 1918 and served during the Russian Civil War as company and battalion chief, among others in the 24th Division. In the CPSU, he was a member since 1919. From 1923 he was a regimental commander. After the completion of the " Frunze Military Academy ," he rose in 1936 for the Division Commander on. From 1938 he was finally Chief of Staff of the Belorussian Military District. In 1940 he went to the same function in the Kiev Special Military District.

At the start of the German attack on the Soviet Union was out of this the Southwestern Front under General of the Army MP Kirponos ( 1892-1941 ). In July 1941 Purkajew but was relieved to be commander of the 60th ( Reserve ) Army. From this the 3rd Shock Army headed Purkajew was standing in the winter battles of Chelm and Demyansk in January 1942. In August 1942 he took command of the troops of the Kalinin Front. In the winter of 1942/43, he was able to decide the struggle for Welikije Luki for itself, but in the " Operation Mars " against the German salient at Rzhev he fell short of expectations. In April 1943, he was therefore entrusted with the command of the Far Eastern front. With this he had been instrumental in the 1945 "Operation August Storm " against the Japanese troops.

After that remained Purkajew September 1945 to January 1947 Commander of the Far Eastern Military District. At the same time he was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Thereafter, he served from June 1947 as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the troops in the Far East. Then Purkajew was from July 1952 Director of the military higher education in the Ministry of Defence of the USSR. Shortly afterwards he died.
