Maksutov (crater)

88.96

Maksutov is an impact crater on the southern hemisphere the reverse side of the Moon and therefore can not be observed directly from Earth. It is located south- southwest of the giant crater Oppenheimer. In the southwest is the crater Nishina and west-northwest to the formation of interconnected crater Davisson, Leibniz, and Finsen emerging.

Maksutov has a clear endorsed outer edge having hardly eroded by subsequent impacts. Strikingly, however, is flooded by lava crater floor. Almost completely planar surface is a lower albedo, which is characteristic of surfaces covered with basaltic lava. The inner crater walls vary in their strength, with the narrowest part is located in the southeast, while especially the northern parts are much more powerful.
