Makua people

( Also written Macua or Makhuwa ) The Makua are a Bantu ethnic group who is resident in northern Mozambique and in addition also in the region of Mtwara in southern Tanzania. Their population is specified for 1996 with 2.5 million.

Their language is the same Makua ( EMakua ), besides the knowledge of the Portuguese is widely used. There are among the Makua both Christians and Muslims as well as some animists.

Descendants of deported as slaves in the 19th century Makua live today as Somali Bantu in Somalia.
