Makyo

Makyo (Japanese: " Devil World") referred to in the Japanese tradition of Zen Buddhism, a hallucination or illusion, which usually occurs during meditation. This can be pictorially or include other sensations, such as an altered body image.

Makyos can significantly interfere with meditation and constitute an obstacle on the path to enlightenment, or spiritual practice. In Zen it is recommended to simply leave unweighted this hallucination and continue with the exercise. Task of the Master, it is also to distinguish Makyos of "real" mystical experiences such as Kensho or Satori.
