Malabo Lopelo Melaka

Löpèlo Melaka, ( † 19 April 1937) better known as Malabo, was the last king of the Bubi people on the West African island of Bioko.

After the death of his brother Moka, the reigning king, on March 2, 1898 the Minister Sas Eburea seized power and had himself crowned in October 1899. His continued resistance against the Spanish colonizers led to his capture and death in July 1904.

After that then Malabo was crowned in September 1904 King of the Bubi. During his tenure in 1910 by Luba chief cited revolt against forced labor in the plantations fell. The crackdown on the uprising probably cost 15,000 Bubi 's life.

Malabo gave up the alcohol down and died in Riabba, today Moka, on 19 April 1937. Born 1896 His son and legitimate heir Francisco Malabo Beosa never went to the office of the king, and died in Moka on 15 November 2001 in total anonymity.

In 1973, the Equatorial Guinean capital was renamed by African honor Löpèlo Melaka in Malabo as part of a campaign of then-President Francisco Macías Nguema to replace colonial place names.
