Malakand Agency

Malakand is a region in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province.

Population and geography

It is largely inhabited by Pashtun tribes and is divided into the districts of Malakand, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner and Shangla.

History

As a long-term consequence of the second Anglo-Afghan war came in 1897 to the siege of Malakand by about 10,000 Pashtun tribesmen. When the relief force that lifted the siege of the British garrison, also served as the later British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
