Malamocco

Malamocco is a small place on the Lido, which separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. He is close to porto di Malamocco, one of the three porti, secured by the tidal movement in the lagoon and the silting up of the lagoon is prevented.

Similar to Venice, the city image of the small town whose residents mainly live from tourism, characterized by channels.

History

Malamocco was next to Torcello, Caorle, Jesolo, Heracliana and Murano one of the island communities of the early Veneto. Ecclesiastical leader of these communities was the patriarch of Grado, politically subordinate to these communities the Eastern Roman Empire.

Middle of the 12th century, the Malamocco was completely destroyed by an earthquake and a devastating storm surge. The subsequently re- populated Malamocco was shelled by the Genoese during the Chioggia War and suffered heavy damage.

Newer time

In recent years Malamocco has been thoroughly overhauled, so was the whole area into a pedestrian area, a new port was done in the center, which is accessible through a channel, the Malamocco the island of Lido effectively separates (the area is accessed via bridges).

New houses, hotels and restaurants opened, and so confirm the trend of tourism to continue to spread over the area of the Lido. MO.S.E project

Early MO.SE project prototypes were tested in Malamocco, so it is protected since the late 90s against flooding by hydraulic steel planks block access to channels Malamoccos when flooding is announced. One is many times larger, and in the work, different version is including in the Porta di Malamocco, the much-used harbor entrance south of the Lido, built to protect all of Venice against flooding can and isolate the lagoon when needed before a new influx.
