Malatesta da Verucchio

Malatesta da Verucchio (* 1212, † 1312) was an Italian condottieri. He was lord of Rimini since 1295 and the founder of the dynasty of the Malatesta.

He was the father of Giovanni ( " Gianciotto " ) Malatesta († 1304) who killed his wife Francesca da Rimini, when his handsome brother Piero Malatesta took as a lover - which promised everybody a place in Dante's Inferno.
