Malawi bushbaby

The Malawi Galago or Malawi Zwerggalago ( Galago nyasae or Galagoides nyasae ) is a primate of the family of galagos ( Galagonidae ). In the past combined with the Zanzibar Galago to a kind, he was recognized based on six specimens as a distinct species. However, the exact boundaries are not clear, maybe it is the same type as the Grant - Galago.

They are like all Galagos very small primates and reach only about 100 to 200 grams. Their fur is reddish brown at the top, the underside is lighter. As with all Galagos the eyes are enlarged as an adaptation to the nocturnal lifestyle, even the hairless ears are large. The hind legs are strong, the tail longer than the body.

The findings of the Malawi Galagos come from the north-western Mozambique in the vicinity of Lake Malawi and from the neighboring regions of Malawi. Their habitat are tropical forests, where they are also found in secondary forests.

About the way of life little is known. They are like all Galagos nocturnal and feed on insects, fruits and tree sap.

Also, the degree of risk is not known due to taxonomic uncertainty and confusion about the exact area of distribution. The IUCN lists the species under "too little data available " ( data deficient ).
