Malaysia Airlines, MAS short, is the largest Malaysian airline based in Kuala Lumpur and based on the Kuala Lumpur airport. MAS is a member of the oneworld airline alliance.

History

1947 Malaysia Airlines started as Malayan Airways, but was renamed Malaysian Airways. After independence, Singapore was in 1966 in Malaysia Singapore Airlines ( MSA) renamed. MSA operation, among others, a number of aircraft of type Boeing 707

1971 Malaysia Singapore Airlines was divided (MAS ) into the two airlines Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airline System. This created two leading airlines in Asia. On 9 August 2011, a framework agreement on cooperation with the Tune Air Sdn Berhad was closed, which owns the airline AirAsia and AirAsia X. These companies are currently the biggest competitor of MAS. After that departments purchase of airplanes, maintenance and training of MAS and Air Asia airlines should cooperate more with each other in order to achieve cost savings.

Destinations

The main hub of Malaysia Airlines is located at the Kuala Lumpur airport. Other nodes are located in Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. In Germany, Frankfurt am Main is five times weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur with a Boeing 777- 200ER. The airline connects Kuala Lumpur continue with Los Angeles (via Tokyo), Cape Town, five cities in Australia, and several destinations in India and Southeast Asia. The entire route network includes more than 100 destinations. Malaysia Airlines was the only Asian airline that Buenos Aires had approached, the connections to South America and South Africa, but were canceled in early 2012 due to lack of profitability. Incidents

  • On December 4, 1977 hijacked Boeing 737 exploded on the Malaysia Airlines Flight 653 on Tanjung Kupang, Johor; all 100 passengers and crew members were killed.
  • On September 15, 1995, a Fokker 50 crashed while landing at the Tawau Airport from Borneo, with 34 of the 53 passengers died.
  • On March 7, 2014, the contact with a Boeing 777- 200ER 9M- MRO of the Malaysia Airlines flight 370 tore off. She was from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing go. There were 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board.

Trivia
