Malaysian National Space Agency

The Angkasa ( malay Agensi Angkasa Negara ) is the Malaysian Space Agency. It was founded in 2002 and is responsible for research and education in the space sector and support the Malaysian Government in achieving its objectives in space. The first and current director of Angkasa is Mazlan Binti Othman, with Mustafa Din Subari as his deputy.

Manned Space Program

As part of the consideration for the purchase of 18 Sukhoi Su- 30MKM fighter jets by the Malaysian government, enabled Russia, a Malaysian astronaut ( Angkasawan ) in 2007 to fly into space. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was selected on September 4, 2006 as the first Malaysian astronaut. He flew in October 2007, eleven days to the International Space Station.

Angkasa has also announced plans for a manned mission to the moon in 2020.
