Malaysian Road Transport Department

The Malaysian Road Transport Department ( Bahasa Malaysia: Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia) is a government organization founded in 1937, which is under the Malaysian Ministry of Transport. The tasks include both the function and driving license authority and approval body, it is also responsible for the enforcement of traffic regulations by law.

History

The " Malaysian Road Transport Department" was established in 1937 by order of the British military authorities as " Road Transport Board ". In 1946, the Authority was " Office of the Registrar and Motor Vehicles" assumed in the context of the establishment of an independent administrative organization and expanded the jurisdiction of the authority to the whole of Malaysia. Before the year 1937 the traffic matters only in states of Lower Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Pahang were officially regulated. In 1947, the Road Transport Department was founded and finally adopt a new traffic regulations in 1953. With this action, the decree of 1937 was abrogated.
