Malchus

Malchus (probably latinized from Hebrew Melech ) is a name mentioned in the New Testament man.

Biblical event

Malchus was working as a servant at Caiaphas, the high priest of Israel.

According to the Gospel according to John, he was among the soldiers and servants of the Sanhedrin court, which were sent with Judas Iscariot, to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Prior to the arrest of Jesus, the disciples, Simon Peter had cut with his sword the right ear of Malchus. John handed nothing about the fate of Malchus.

However, John Malchus indirectly mentioned in relation to a " whose relatives had to Peter cut off the ear" of Peter with Jesus claimed to have seen in the garden ( Jn 18,26 EU).

The tradition of the severed ear found without naming the servant of the high priest input in the Gospel according to Luke; but it can be identified by comparison with the John tradition clearly as Malchus. Is added to the description of a healing miracle: " Then said Jesus, Let from Discontinued And he touched his ear and healed him! ". ( Lk 22,51 EU)
