Malcolm Ranjith

Albert Malcolm Ranjith Cardinal Patabendige Don (* November 15, 1947 in Polgahawela, Sri Lanka) is Archbishop of Colombo.

Life

Albert Malcolm Ranjith studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the diocesan seminary and at the Pontifical Urban University and the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He received on 29 June 1975 in Rome by Pope Paul VI. the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On June 17, 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Cabarsussi and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo. The bishop He was ordained on 31 August of the same year by the Archbishop of Colombo, Nicholas Marcus Fernando. John Paul II appointed him on November 2, 1995, the leadership of the Diocese of Ratnapura.

On 1 October 2001 he was appointed Curia Bishop of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. On 29 April 2004, he was named John Paul II Titular Archbishop of Umbriatico and put him as Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia and East Timor to office.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 10 December 2005 as the secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in the Roman Curia back.
