Malcolm Spence (South African athlete)

Malcolm Spence ( Malcolm Clive Spence, born September 4, 1937 in Johannesburg, † December 30 2010 in Howick ) was a South African sprinter.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he was sixth in the 400m. In 1958 he won at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff silver and gold over 440 yards with the South African team in the 4 x 440 -yard relay.

He celebrated his biggest success at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 by winning the bronze medal over 400 m. His time of 45.5 s remained until 1983 national record. In the 4 x 400 - meter relay, he came up with the South African team to fourth place.
