Geography

Maldonado is 134 km east of the provincial capital Montevideo and is adjacent to the southeast, the resort of Punta del Este. History

The three natural harbors of the Río de la Plata in Maldonado, who discovered the first navigators, as they sailed into the wide estuary, have ensured that the area was already settled around 1600.
