Maleimide is the imide of maleic acid. The term refers to the substance group maleimides in which the amino group is replaced by an alkyl or aryl group. They are characterized by high susceptibility to additions made to the O double bonds in Michael additions or Diels- Alder reactions.
Extraction
Maleimides are prepared by reaction of maleic anhydride with amines and subsequent dehydration.
Derivatives
Bismaleimide composed of two interconnected and maleimide are used as crosslinking agents in the polymer chemistry.
