Malerkotla

Malerkotla ( Maler Kotla ) was one of the princely states in the Punjab States Agency of British India. Its capital was the site of Malerkotla. The princes were Muslim Pashtun derived by Shaykh Sadr ad - Din Sadr -i Jahan, the daughter of the Sultan of Delhi Lodi Bahloul married in 1454 and was invested with some villages. Among the Great Mughals they went on further, and Bayezid Khan ( 1800-57 ) was appointed Nawab. Malerkotla was a British protectorate 1809-1947.

The Principality of 1901 had an area of 427 km ² and 77,500 inhabitants. Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan ( 1947-56 ) joined on 15 July 1948, the Patiala and East Punjab States Union ( PEPSU ) and took place on 20 August 1948, after India. On November 1, 1956 all princely states were dissolved and PEPSU part of the state of Punjab.
