Malia (Greek Μάλια (n. pl. ) Of Omalós, just ') is a coastal city on the southern Greek island of Crete, 34 km east of Heraklion.

With the notation of Μάλλια the place in 1925 as rural community ( kinotita ) was recognized in 1940 and renamed in 1986 with the incorporation of the mountain village Krasi to township ( dimos ) levied. In 1997, the rural community Mochos was incorporated with the place Stalis. On 1 January 2011 the municipality of Malia was incorporated into Hersonissos, where she has since formed one of four municipal districts.

The bay of Malia is one of the most important bathing coasts of Crete. Accordingly, to clearly feel the tourist influence by numerous hotel facilities, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. Through intensive construction activities, the boundaries between Hersonissos in the west of the bay, Stalis and Malia are now fluent.

Attractions

The main attraction is the approximately three kilometers east of the present town located Palace of Malia Minoan period.

On the road to Lasithi Plateau leads to the mountain village Krasi. Here is the largest plane of Crete, next to a Venetian source house.
