Maliq ( Albanian: Maliqi, German Malik ) is a small town with about 4290 inhabitants ( 2011) in the district of Korçë east of Albania near the border with Macedonia and Greece.

Geography

The city Maliq is on the western edge of the plain of Korçë. The level of the draining Devoll River flows through the city before it breaks through the mountains on the way to the sea in the west.

The municipality also includes the villages still Bicka, Gjyras, GOCA, Maliq Fshat and Plovisht -Bos lying in Devoll Valley and in the mountains west of the town.

History

East of Maliq significant remains from the Stone Age have been found, which gave its name to the Malik - culture. These were located around the meantime drained Maliq Lake.

For the communist period Maliq was a center of agriculture, notably the cultivation of sugar beet. In the mountains to the west were mining activities.
