Mallet

The mallet is a tool used in carpentry and carpentry along with the chisel.

As the magazines chisels are made of wood, they would be destroyed too quickly, if you would use as a striking tool a tool of metal. Therefore, the mallet is used which, as the name implies, is made of wood. Unlike a mallet impact surfaces (lanes ) of the knock wood, however, are not parallel to the stem, but in one axis with the wrist, because the movement does not come like the hammer of the whole arm or elbow, but from the wrist.

In the carpentry planers are used with round head, because one usually works with more effort. If you cut off by a chisel, this can lead to painful injuries from abrasions to broken ankles. The round head prevent serious injury, as he rolls out of hand.

The knock wood has a square head usually. Is the head but round, one speaks of a Knüpfel or mallet.
