Malmö Mosque

The Mosque of Malmö is one of the most important mosques in Sweden and is located on the outskirts of Malmö in the south of the country. Construction began in April 1983, was inaugurated in 1984. Adjacent to the mosque is an Islamic center that includes an Islamic school and a library. In the region about 55,000 Muslims live.

There were previously three arson attacks at the mosque; the prayer house was badly damaged in an attack on 28 April 2003, another building of the Islamic Centre were totally destroyed. In two other attacks on 18 September and on 21 October 2005, the fire was quickly extinguished and there was only minor damage.

Malmö has caused mainly by immigrants from Iraq, a rapidly growing Muslim community. The mosque is visited by Muslims from all over Skåne and Muslims from the nearby Copenhagen.
