Malung

Malung is the capital of the municipality Malung- halls in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and Dalarna. Malung counted 5126 inhabitants in 2010.

The name Malung was first used in 1200 in the Molungr Sverris saga in the West Nordic form. It derives from the dialect word times for sand and gravel on the banks of the river Västerdal are abundant, which flows through the town. Southwest of the village is the Tiomilawald ( Tiomilaskogen ).

Malung is the center of the Swedish leather industry. In the autumn of 2006 opened the first ice hockey school for girls in Sweden.
