Mamaku Ranges

The Mamaku Ranges are a mountain range in the North Island of New Zealand. They lie to the west of Lake Rotorua and north of Lake Taupo immediately south of the Kaimai Ranges. They can therefore be considered as its continuation. The Kaimai Range itself can in turn be regarded as extensions of the Coromandel Peninsula. The mountains border in the south to the valley of the Waikato River.

The highest point of the mountain range reaches about 600 m. Much of the higher ground is the Mamaku Plateau. The area is heavily wooded. The Kaimai Mamaku State Forest - and Kinleith Forest cover large parts of the region. The Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park protects 450 lkm ² of the area. This park is developed with paths and is for hiking, camping, hunting un used.

The forests are the natural southern limit of distribution of kauri trees and the northern distribution limit of red beech and silver beech in New Zealand.
