Mambwe-Lungu language

Mambwe is a small rural village in the Eastern Province in Zambia. It is the seat of the administration of the district of the same with 70 425 inhabitants ( 2000 census ). The town is located 60 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Chipata.

Economy

Mambwe is considered the most productive district of the Eastern Province. The income from tourism and hunting in southern Luangwa valley, the South Luangwa National Park, are considerable. The funds go to the Zambian Wildlife Authority ( Zambian Wildlife Authority ) in Chilanga, which returns a portion of it in projects in the district. The Mambwe District is therefore constantly in financial difficulties and unable to create the necessary infrastructure. In agriculture, maize is the staple crop. In the dry year 2005 16.823 persons were listed as threatened by hunger and required 1,615 tonnes of cereals as food aid.

Infrastructure

District and city are easily accessible via the Great East Road. There is the Kamoto Hospital of the Reformed Church with 62 beds, which is 85 km away from Chipata. There is no post office in the district. Electricity was promised in 2005 for the city Mwambwe. An extensive airfield for larger aircraft is in Mfue.
