Mamer

Mamer ( Luxembourgish Mamer ) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The village chapels is the capital of the canton of the same name. It is the only cantonal chief town in Luxembourg, which is not also municipal seat.

Composition of the community

The municipality comprises the three villages:

  • Mamer,
  • Chapels and
  • Holzem.

History

Mamer was first mentioned in an act of April 8, 960, as the Countess Liutgardis the village to the monastery of St. Maximin Mambra gave away.

1972 Remains of Roman baths and a village were discovered during archaeological excavations near the Tossebierg. Today's Mamer was in Roman times a stopping place on a Roman road and military.

A popular attraction is the well-preserved Roman baths.
