Mammut (Radar)

The remote paging system FuMG 41/42 Mammoth ( Air Force designation), or FMO51/52 Seetakt ( Navy designation) of the company Gema was an interconnection of eight (or six ) Freya Freya antenna arrays on two devices. This aims at 8000 m altitude could be located up to 300 km away. The antennas were fixed. The directional beam could be electronically scanned by ± 60 °. It was the first phased array radar of the world.

Interestingly, the British code name " Hoarding ", which translates as " billboard " or " bulletin board " means and probably is related to the typical shape of the device. The radio intelligence was, in its report of 20 April 1945, shortly before the war ended still believe that it was only by laboratory prototype that never went into operational mode.
