Mamnoon Hussain

Mamnoon Hussain ( Urdu ممنون حسین; born March 2, 1940 in Agra, India) is a Pakistani businessman and politician, who was elected in 2013 as president of Pakistan.

In 1999, he was for a short time, the governor of the province of Sindh, but lost this position again after the military coup by Pervez Musharraf. As chairman of the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Karachi, he was nominated by the ruling Muslim League as a candidate for the presidential election in 2013 and elected on July 30, 2013 to the 12th President of Pakistan. Hussain has assumed the post on September 9, 2013. He succeeds Asif Ali Zardari, who had not offered himself for re-election.

Hussain is considered a close confidant of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He is said to have little political experience.
