BWf1

Mamostong Kangri or Mamostang Kangri is the highest peak of the Rimo Muztagh, a portion of the Karakoram.

Location and characteristics

Mamostong Kangri is located in India near the disputed border with Pakistan, about 30 km south-east of the Siachen Glacier. He is the 48th highest independent peak in the world (with over 500m Vertical separation ). Many glaciers such as the South Chong Kumdan, Kichik Kumdan ( Thangman ) Mamostong, and South Terong Glaciers cover the slopes of the Mamostong Kangri.

Climbing history

The Mamostong Kangri has not seen many climbers because of its remote location and the precarious political and military situation of its territory. The first European exploration of the summit took place in 1907 by Arthur Neve and DG Oliver instead. The first ascent was successful only in 1984 an Indo -Japanese expedition across the North-East ridge after a complicated approach. The top - roped comprised N. Yamada, K. Yoshida, R. Sharma, P. Das and H. Chauhan. The Himalayan Index lists four more ascents to the summit; but could be one and the same rise two of these collections.
