Man of Many Faces

20 masks! (Japanese 20面相 に おねがい! Nijūmensō ni Onegai ) is a manga series of the famous artist team CLAMP, which also has written Cardcaptor Sakura among others. The manga includes over 330 pages and can be assigned to the shōjo genre, that is aimed primarily at a female, young readers.

Action

The nine- year-old campus detective Akira Ijyuin is criminal, because he has to feed his greedy family. In ever new masks he makes himself not only as a thief a name, but also has its most persistent pursuer, his campus colleagues Ryunosuke escape, again and again.

Publications

20 masks! appeared in Japan from 1989 to 1991 in eleven separate chapters in the Japanese manga magazine Comic Genki. This single chapter summarized the Kadokawa Shoten Publishing House - June 1990 together in a total of two anthologies. 2001 brought the same publisher also a two-volume edition of the manga out.

The manga series has been translated into Italian, English, French, Spanish and German. In German appeared 20 masks! from September to November, 2005 in two volumes in full by Egmont Manga and Anime. The new edition of the German translation in 2001 served as a base.

Background

The story is set on the fictional CLAMP School ( CLAMP学园CLAMP Gakuen ). A continuation of 20 masks! represents the manga series CLAMP School Detectives, shortly after the completion of 20 masks! launched in the same magazine, and was filmed as a anime television series. Also on the CLAMP School itself contributes to the action of Justice Guards Dukylon.

The protagonist also has brief appearances in the CLAMP series Justice Guards Dukylon and X.

Adaptations

Two episodes in the comprehensive 26 Episodes Anime CLAMP School Detectives implementing dedicated to the act of 20 masks! . Two CDs or radio plays to manga published in Japan in June 1990 and in July 1991 Victor Entertainment. Both contain both music and dialogue.
