Man with a Glove

Man with the glove is the title of a painting by Titian, which was created in the period 1520-1523. It is now in the Louvre in Paris. The picture is still one of Titian's early work but initiates the transition to his mature style. It is not known which person is depicted in the portrait.

Shown is a young man. The upper body is facing the viewer centrally. In contrast, the face is slightly turned to the side and the view of the portrait facing in the same direction. The face is alert and focused, but otherwise has no emotion on. The hair is cut short and combed strictly. The sitter wears a black skirt, the color in the northern Italian cities of the 16th century featured members of the aristocratic layer or the upper middle class. Under the black skirt, a white shirt is visible, which is slightly ruffled collar. Also visible are the ruffled sleeves, the hands stand out with their bright color from the darkness. At the outstretched index finger of the right hand of the sitter wearing a ring. This indicates to the neck jewelery as well as the attitude of the people portrayed on the affiliation to an upscale level. The left arm is placed on a back or parapet.
