Manassas (Band)

Manassas was an American rock band that was founded by Stephen Stills in 1971.

Band History

Stills formed the band after he had worked with some of the musicians already on his solo album Stephen Stills 2 (1971 ) and the accompanying tour. As a rhythm guitarist, he won Chris Hillman, who had previously played bass with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers with guitar. The drummer Dallas Taylor had played since 1969 with both stills as well as with Crosby, Stills, Nash ( & Young). Still named his band after the city of Manassas, Virginia, when he and his fellow musicians have been photographed for a photo on the old railway station of Manassas. The photo is also the cover image of her eponymous first album, whose songs mostly penned by Stephen Stills.

Manassas was released in May 1972 as a double LP. Subsequently, the band toured, they also led by Europe. Stills learned during the tour stay in Paris Véronique Sanson, whom he married in 1973. Already after the second album, Down The Road, the band in late 1973 triggered again. Hillman then joined the supergroup Souther -Hillman - Furay band and also introduced Harris, Lala and Perkins in the band. Stills continued, meanwhile, continued his solo career. In 2009 the record company Rhino Records from unreleased material the band together the album Pieces.
