Manau (group)

Manau is a Founded in 1998, French hip- hop group, which thus became known that she mixed elements of traditional Celtic music with modern rap beats.

Originally the band consisted of musicians Martial Tricoche, Cédric Soubiron and RV ( Hervé ) Lardic. Following the resignation of Lardic Gregor Gandon was added to the group. Although the group is based in Paris, come all members from Brittany. The group's name comes from the ancient Gaelic name of the Isle of Man.

History of the band

The beginnings

In 1988 Tricoche and Soubiron started a radio show on a local FM station to make. Martial headed the mission and Cédric worked as a DJ in the background. This show ran for two years and earned both a large number of fans. At the end of the mission succeeded Cédric employment with the popular radio station Skyrock get.

Some years later, Cédric met RV at the station had a live performance with his band Meanwhile. He had just completed a seven -year training at the Paris Conservatory of Music and played guitar, bass, accordion and keyboard. Quick led both talks about starting his own group.

Martial had now begun a career as a songwriter. The formation of the band

One of her demo tapes landed on the desk of the creative director at Polydor. Impressed by the new sound he offered them a recording contract immediately.

The band recorded a single on with the title La Tribu de Dana, which went on sale in May 1998. The song reached immediately Hitstatus until today 1.7 million records were sold, 1.5 million of them already in the first months after publication. La tribu de Dana means the tribe of Dana and is the name of an Irish tribe, the épopée in the novel L' Celt is described.

Even if it was a pop song, it sounded very familiar to the ears of fans of older music. The reason was that the chorus of the single was a cover of the tune from Alan Stivells hit from the 70s Tri Martolod. Stivell sued the group immediately. Manau took the view that the song was only a foundation and has changed so much that the accusation of plagiarism is unfounded.

Success

Prompted by the success of the single asked the marketing directors from Polydor the band to record a debut album. Although the completion deadlines were very tight set, Manau went immediately to work. They came forth to support even Loïc waist Brest, a well-known folk musician who was known for his skills on the bagpipes and the Bombard.

After only a few weeks to work on the debut album was finished Panique celtique. The album was released in July 1998 and was as expected a bestseller. 500,000 copies were quickly sold the million mark was reached after one year.

Manaus awareness increased exponentially. Soon, the group was invited to several music festivals including the famous Francofolies festival in La Rochelle and the annual music festival in Marseille. On the Saint -Renan Festival in Brittany they performed together with the legendary French folk band Tri Yann.

In southern Germany, the band gained notoriety in that they were invited by the radio station SWR3 to their annual festival newcomer to the New Pop Festival in Baden -Baden.

Changes

After prior announcement on its website Manau post December 12, 2011 their fourth album to date with the name Panique Celtique II: Le village. This album contains eleven previously unknown tracks and ties both style and content of her first album, which is already on the title of the album.
