Manavgat is a town and district of Antalya Province in the Turkish Riviera with 89 307 inhabitants ( 2010). It is 75 km east of Antalya, 60 km northwest of Alanya and 7 km north-east of the ancient city and the resort side.

Manavgat is located in the fertile plain between the Taurus Mountains and the estuary of the River Manavgat. In the plane of cotton, corn, sesame seeds, many fruits and vegetables as well as flowers are (partly in greenhouses ) grown. Also first banana plantations can be found here. On river trout and Crevettenzucht is operated.

In Manavgat lives a large part of working in Side and the surrounding hotels in Tourism Turkish population; the place serves as a logistics center of tourism; it is to explain its steady growth.

And the partly built over the river fish restaurants is a popular destination - through the town of the same river, the (rather rapids küçük şelale ) with the big waterfall ( büyük şelale ) and small waterfall flows. Otherwise Manavgat is known regionally for its large yet, visited by locals and tourists Bazaar and Spice Market.

Striking is a one-lane steel bridge over the river that has been built between 1931-1938 by the German company Krupp. This bridge has long been the only connection between the two river banks.

Upriver, there are two reservoirs, which can be navigated with boats in the summer. The upper reservoir ( Oymapınar dam ) has a 360 m long and 157 m high dam and a storage space of 300 million m³. It was built in 1984 to supply drinking water and energy.

Development

With the tourism Manavgat grew from a once small village into a large town with many shops, malls, restaurants and bars zoom. It was a new, artificially erbauter waterfall in the middle of the city. The above the waterfall standing statue of Atatürk, together with the waterfall an attractive image and is therefore very popular among tourists.

Furthermore, a new bridge was built, which is also in accordance with Köprü Yeni ( New Bridge ) is called. It is built for disabled people, each located at both ends of the bridge lift.
