Mancenans

Mancenans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Mancenans situated at 300 m, 3 km west of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 20 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a small valley north of Doubstals between the hills of Châtel and Replain, at the foot of the north adjoining the Doubs Valley Causse.

The area of ​​11.94 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows with large loops in a about one kilometer wide flat Talniederung and simultaneously forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flood plain in the trough of Mancenans that of the wooded hills Châtel ( 426 m; west) and Replain (428 m; in the East) is flanked. North of this hill the land rises gently to the Kalkhochfläche between Doubs and Ognon. Here the highest elevation of Mancenans is achieved with 501 m. The plateau is a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest land. The eastern boundary of the municipality runs dry valley of Combe Ainé.

Neighboring communities of Mancenans are Accolans in the north, Geney, Étrappe and Appenans in the east, rank and Pompierre -sur -Doubs in the south and Soye in the West.

History

Mancenans developed alongside founded in the 12th century Cistercian monastery Lieucroissant that has been called since the 16th century Les Trois Rois. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Mancenans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The Church de la Protection de Notre -Dame was built in 1860 and consecrated in 1877. Compared to this hall church of the free-standing bell tower is relatively small. From the former convent only a few remnants remain.

Population

With 321 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Mancenans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 443 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded especially during the last few years again.

Economy and infrastructure

Mancenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs to Rougemont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km.
