Mandaue

The City of Mandaue City (Filipino: Lungsod ng Mandaue ) is located in the province of Cebu, in the administrative region of Central Visayas, the country of the Philippines. The city is located on the island of Cebu. The neighboring municipalities are Cebu City in the west and north, Lapu- Lapu City in the south and the Municipality of Consolacion in the east. Mandaue City is part of the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines, Metro Cebu. The Mactan -Cebu International Airport in Lapu- Lapu City is located ten minutes drive from Mandaue City. The city has a well-developed education system with several universities. Mandaue City is one of the oldest occupied in writing, settlements in the Philippines and was an important starting point for the Christian colonization of the Philippines.

History

The first mention of Mandaue City goes back to the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. In the travelogue of the expedition a place name Mandawe is mentioned, which lies in the small bay of Cebu. This place is known as Baranggay Tipolo today.

In 1571 was built by the Spanish conquistadors Miguel López de Legazpi, the first dry dock on the territory of the Philippines, built on the coastline of present-day barangays Tipolo.

In the period 1580-1700, the settlements were summarized in the Bay of Cebu in a Spanish administrative unit of the Pueblos. Mandaue was first mentioned in 1899 as the Town of Mandaue.

Mandaue City was awarded the town charter on June 21, 1969 The basis for this was the Republic Act 5519th

Geography

The City of Mandaue is located on the island of Cebu, located on the road from Cebu. Your opposite is the island of Mactan which it is connected by two bridges.
