Mandelbach (Blies)

The almond Bach is a good 13 km long stream in the Saar Pfalz-Kreis Saarland. It rises north-east of Blieskasteler district Aßweiler and flows in the direction southsouthwest almond Bachtaler districts Erfweiler Ehlingen, Witternheim, Bebelsheim and Habkirchen. It flows almost parallel to the former Nancy Bingen Road, the present Federal Road 423

From the headwaters to the mouth of the creek almond can be found on its banks numerous pollarded willows, also called osier. From the rods in this Kopfweiden you have braided the indispensable for rural agriculture baskets in earlier centuries. Since their leaves were similar to those of the almond tree, the tree was popularly known also almond. Thus the stream running past the almond Bach and this for namesake of the surrounding valley. Shortly before the mouth of the creek almond in the assemblies was once the place almond Bach ( first mentioned in 1239 ), which is now merged in the district Habkirchen.

The creek is also the community that extends beyond the actual valley its name.

The region around the almond Bach is the core of the cultural landscape of the Bliesgau.
