Mandibulata

Mandibles of an ant

The Mandibeltiere ( Mandibulata ) are a monophyletic group of arthropods ( Arthropoda ) which is accrued on the basis of morphological characteristics against the pine pawl carrier ( Chelicerata ). Named the group after their mouthparts, the first pair is called mandibles. The Mandibeltiere include crustaceans (Crustacea ) and the Tracheentiere ( Tracheata ) with the millipedes ( Myriapoda ) and insects. Molecular biological studies, however, led to the assumption that the crustaceans and Tracheentiere have acquired the mandibles independently.

Features

The following features combine Mandibeltiere:

1 The presence of a head tank ( Cephalon ), which consists of the first six segments of the body armor ( carapace ) and to which are in original condition designed as extremities two antennae and 3 pairs of mouthparts ( mandibles, 1st and 2nd maxilla ). 2 compound eyes, the individual eyes ( ommatidia ) are composed of a crystal and tapered with a central eight Retinulazellen rhabdome. 3 The original excretory organs, the nephridia strictly limited to the head region where species in crustaceans antenna and Maxillardrüsen. The Tracheentieren Labialdrüsen are available, but the act only as memory glands. The Exkretionsfunktion assume here the Malpighian tubules in the digestive tract.
