Mandinka is a language in West Africa.
She belongs with several other closely related languages ( Bambara, Jula, Maninka and others) to Manding Vai branch of the Mande languages , which form a primary branch of the Niger - Congo languages .
Mandinka is spoken by about 1.5 million speakers in The Gambia, Mali, Senegal and Guinea- Bissau. In Gambia, it is the most widely used language.
The language is written in both Latin letters and in Arabic script, the Latin that is officially used, the Arab is the older. In addition, Mandinka is rarely written in N'Ko, one developed in the mid-20th century specifically for Mande languages font.
