Mane (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence)

Mane is a commune in the Alpes -de -Haute -Provence, Provence -Alpes- Côte d' Azur region. It belongs to the district and canton of Forcalquier.

Location

The community, located just south of 100 and departmental road 13 of Forcalquier on the National Road, covers 22 square kilometers at 386-868 m above sea level and is situated in the valley of the river Laye. It has 1380 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), the " Manaraines " (also: Manarains ) are called.

History

Archaeological studies have shown that here already in Gallo-Roman times people settled and practiced agriculture. Remains of a Roman villa have been excavated. 1103 appears the place as " Manoa "; at that time was a Benedictine priory here. In the 19th century Mane was known for its pottery.

Attractions

  • Monastery of Salagon, a former Benedictine priory, with Notre- Dame-de- Salagon ( in the core from the second half of the 12th century, enlarged in the 16th century), with medieval frescoes. The plant is since the early 1980s, the " Musée Departmental ethnologique de Haute-Provence ", responsible for the ethnographic and botanical heritage of the region, with several botanical gardens, in over 600 species of aromatic and medicinal plants. The plant includes a burial church (5th / 6th century ) with stone coffins.
  • Citadelle de Mane, fortification 17th/18th. Century.
  • Parish Church of Saint -André, with Baroque facade of the 16th century, Gothic choir and bell tower of the 17th century
  • Chapelle des pénitents Notre-Dame -de- Pitié (18th century)
  • Old " Hôtel de Miravail " ( 16th and 18th centuries )
  • Castle Sauvan, 1719/20 built
