Maneb ( manganese ethylene abbreviation for -1 ,2- bis- dithiocarbamate) is a chemical compound from the group of dithiocarbamates, which is used as a pesticide against fungal diseases. There is a yellowish, slightly water- soluble powder. Maneb as a residue of the treatment of agricultural crops in fruits and vegetables.

Use

Maneb is used as a pesticide for fungal infections ( fungicide). For example, against late blight (Phytophthora ) and Early Blight (Alternaria ) on potatoes and tomatoes, downy mildew and rusts on ornamentals and against blue mold ( Peronospora tabacina ) in tobacco. In 2007 t maneb were used in Germany between 100 and 250, 2011 decreased the amount used on 25-100 t. Maneb is approved in Germany for use only against late blight in potatoes. In Austria it could be used in certain vegetable crops and viticulture, the approvals of the two preparations were, however, canceled in June 2010, the use- runs until 30 June 2012. Switzerland numerous preparations containing the active ingredient maneb for a variety of applications are approved.

Safety

Maneb is practically non-toxic, but potentially teratogenic effect, so it can harm the unborn child.
