Manfred Abelein

Manfred Abelein (born 20 October 1930 in Stuttgart, † 17 January, 2008 Ellwangen ) was a German politician ( CDU) and mountaineers.

Life and career

Manfred Abelein was the son of a commercial clerk Martin Abelein and Catholic. He lived least temporarily in Berkshire ( UK) and was in 1980 married to Ingeborg Eisenach - Abelein, an occupational medicine.

Abelein holds a degree in law, political science and economics, inter alia, as a student of Hermann Rasch Hofer. From 1961 to 1965 he served as personal assistant to the Office of the Minister of Henry Crown. First, since 1966 lecturer, he taught from 1968 as full professor at the University of Regensburg policy and public law. He was known for his constantly repeated course " Current problems of tax policy ." From 1991 to 1996 he was Vice- President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Abelein was passionate mountaineer and amateur pilot and a trained air force pilot. In the Andes in Bolivia in 1977 he ascended the Illimani massif ( 6439 m), in Austria in 1978 he made the first ascent of south face and simultaneously the winter first ascent of the Hohe Munde ( 2662 m) in the Tyrolean Leutaschtal. He also took from March to May in 1980 at the first European expedition Tibet for decades and partially boarded while the Shisha Pangma ( 8027 m). With a non-stop flight from New York to Cologne Abelein graduated in 1979 attracted attention.

Member of Parliament

From 1965 to 1990 Abelein was a member of the German Bundestag as the successor of Rudolf Vogel. He is always drawn as directly elected representative of the constituency Aalen- Heidenheim in the Bundestag and received in every election over 50 % of the vote. He pursued a conservative policy and was a fierce critic of East Germany and policies of the social-liberal government.

His successor as constituency MP was Georg Brunnhuber, who belonged to the German Parliament by the year 2009.

Abelein also belonged to the North Atlantic Assembly, the Vice President, he was from 1985 to 1987 after he had already led the German delegation since 1983.
