Manfred Bock

Manfred Bock ( born May 28, 1941 in Hamburg, † 31 October 2010 Uetersen ) was a German athlete, decathlete and Olympic athletes at the Olympic Games in 1960.

Life

Bock was born in Hamburg in 1941 and was regarded as a teenager as a good all-rounder. Special talent he showed the high jump, where he participated as 18 -year-old skipped the 1.90 meters, and later in the pole vault. The pole vault, he learned in the home garden, where he jumped with a bamboo rod over the taut clothesline of his mother. At age 19 he played his first ten fights in Germany.

The reason was that he had expected in California with the support that was clearly not intended for him. Bock did not get the hoped- university scholarship.

After his sporting achievements he made his studies at the Cologne Sports College with a degree in physical education teacher. Following a stint in Wattenscheid Manfred Bock went in 1973 as a physical education teacher at the Uetersener Ludwig Meyn -Gymnasium, where he worked until 2004.

Manfred Bock was an avid basketball player at SC Rist Wedel and was instrumental in the birth of the basketball department of TSV Uetersen, he also was a coach at his hometown club TSV Uetersen and the Uetersener tennis club. He died at the age of 69 of a heart attack.

Manfred Bock also was a member of the Hamburger SV.
