Manfred Curry

Manfred Curry ( born December 11, 1899 in Munich, † February 13, 1953 in Landsberg am Lech) was a physician, inventor, sailor and author. Curry lived a long time of his life as a U.S. citizen in Riederau, a district of Unterdießen on the western shore of Lake Ammersee.

Sailor and designer

Manfred Curry took claims to participate in sailing regattas around 1,400, of which he should have won a great extent.

His successes are due in part to the superior design of his boats, on the other hand, to recognize his extraordinary talent changing wind conditions at an early stage and tactical advantage. Curry also appeared on almost exclusively in boat classes in which building regulations and Regatta Regulations constructive design options allowed (see also design class).

1928 Curry started at the sailing competitions of the Olympic Games for the United States. He finished in 12-foot dinghy on the 10th and in the 8 meter class the 6th Place.

Curry led by numerous pioneering experiments to improve cutting and profile of sailing and to optimize the flow conditions. He exhibited at, among others, wind tunnel testing of the aircraft manufacturer Junkers and dismissed the superiority of his " battened mainsail " to find out in which the sail is profiled along the lines of bird wings by battens.

His book The aerodynamics of the sail and the art of sailing regatta, which he wrote at the age of 18 years by its own account, has been translated from the 1920s in many languages. In retrospect, a remake of the 1949 Curry can state with satisfaction: "Many of the suggestions I made in the first edition of this book, such as the Marconi rigging, genoa jib, the ball - spinnaker, the so-called disk boom ( Park Avenue boom that was used in the Gold Cup races between England and America), rotating masts, vaulted and engagable swords (used in the domestic scows ) found extensive use. "

His boat hulls designed by Manfred Curry aerodynamic and hydrodynamic aspects. Its 20 - m ² - racing dinghy Aero 1929 and further Aero II from 1936 still enjoy today because of numerous innovations a legendary reputation.

Was named after him, the cam cleat, a device for fast clamping ( documents) and solving pods. Another invention that could not prevail in the regatta technique curry brake was a construction at the stern of the boat for tactical brakes in special situations Regatta.

Patents and the curry Landskiff

Together with Carl August Bembé Curry invented a vaulted " Great pole for sailboat "; German Patent No. 401 658 was granted on December 1, 1923 for this purpose. In addition to improvements in sailing interested Manfred Curry and the glider and designed according to aerodynamic principles bicycles. A " Landskiff " called velomobile it should be have patented 1926. This wheeled vehicle is powered by oar -like movements of the person sitting on Roll seats drivers who hold his hands on sliding rods in the vehicle side walls; the sliding movement of the traction elements is converted freewheel gear and recoil spring in a rotational movement of the rear axle (Swiss patent No. 118589 Main, filed March 19, 1926). Currys " device for determining the incoming weather ", which utilizes the effect of substances " that change color depending on humidity and temperature," became the October 15, 1934 patented (Austrian Patent No. 140831 ); there is an improvement in the Anzeigemechanismusses with two relatively rotatable scales that provide tips on change in air pressure and wind direction.

Curry as a doctor

In 1930 received his doctorate in Munich Curry on " fibroid and age picture".

Mid-1940s, he founded the American Riederau Bioclimatic Research Institute, which was continued after his early death, his widow Maude Hester - curry as Manfred Curry clinic.

" Bioclimatic "

As a physician and scientist to Curry employed, among others, dowsing (see Curry network) and " bioclimatic ". A typology of man, founded on the medical aspects of bioclimatic found primarily in alternative medicine attention. About the original bioclimatic topic, this typology is used to understand individual health needs and compatibilities; a dating agency relies on it.

Curry power

As a " curry power " is of dowsers and other diviners called a returning to Manfred Curry diagonal grid of field lines (or " earth rays "), which is to run at regular intervals over the entire earth. In a lattice width of about 3 m and an orientation in NE-SW and NW- SE direction to the network, depending on time and weather, polarized differently be .. The existence of such radiation phenomena was earlier at least highly controversial and is now largely refuted.
